2. Values

Scrum is based on 5 core values:

  1. Commitment: Team members commit to achieving the Sprint goals and to working together collaboratively.
  2. Courage: The team must have the courage to face challenges, make difficult decisions, and be transparent about the problems that arise.
  3. Focus: During the Sprint, the team concentrates on the established tasks and goals, avoiding distractions and prioritizing the most important work.
  4. Openness: Open and honest communication is essential to the team's success. Members must share their ideas, concerns, and feedback constructively.
  5. Respect: Team members must respect each other's skills, experiences, and perspectives, fostering an environment of collaboration and trust.

The Scrum Team commits to achieving its goals and supporting one another, focusing on the Sprint's work to achieve the best possible progress. These values guide the team's work, actions, and behavior. Decisions and the way Scrum is applied must reinforce them, never weaken them. When the team internalizes these values, the empirical pillars of Scrum, transparency, inspection, and adaptation, come to life and build trust.

Let's get to know the different roles in more detail.

Activity 1
  1. Think about a team you have worked on (professional, academic, or personal). Which Scrum value do you think was most lacking?
  2. Describe a situation where applying the value of "Courage" would be necessary in a software development project.
